Always so Much going On!!!!
It has been awhile since I have had the time to update my blog. Why is it that life always has so much going on that you can barely keep up? September is always a busy month for us. This year seems to be a little bit busier, if that is possible. Zack and Brett both had their birthdays this past weekend.
Brett was so excited that it was his birthday. He has finally caught on to the fact that you get presents for your birthday. We took him to Toys R Us to pick out a present from his grandparents. Everything that he saw, he would scream that he wanted that really bad. I do mean that he would scream. This kid only has one volume, and it is LOUD. He mainly received Imaginext toys for his birthday. They were buy two get the third free at Toys R Us. I did the cheap thing this year, and wrapped everything in newspaper to cut costs. It worked out great, and he could have cared less. To say that I am struggling because my baby is three is an understatement. It seems like just yesterday that he was an infant. Wow how time flies.
Zack had such a hard time deciding what he wanted for his birthday this year. He is at that in-between stage where he likes toys, but doesn't really play with them a whole lot. He came up with the brilliant idea that he wanted a Bearded Dragon lizard. I didn't mind the idea, but was a little hesitant because I didn't know what kind of care that they would need. Typically when the kids get a pet, it becomes my responsibility after about a month or so. The "I promise I will take care of it" routine flies out of the window. Therefore, Dave and I decided to take him to a reptile and snake store called Scales and Tails to check out the lizards. Holy Cow!!! Yuck is the word that is coming to my mind. This store had snakes that were monstrous everywhere. It was hard not to walk through it without being creeped out. Zack found a bearded dragon named "Pink" that he had to have. It was about a foot long or so with it's tail. I was onboard with the idea until they told me what and how often it ate. Those little suckers need 30 crickets a day!! Can you imagine what noise that would make each night...no thanks. Needless to say Zack got a BMX bike for his birthday. ha ha. He loves it, and will have an absolute riot on it. The best part is that it doesn't eat crickets.
Another thing that has been happening in our lives that is really neat is Dave's parents returned from their mission in New Zealand. The kids were so excited to see them, and so was Dave for that matter. They look great, and have definitely returned with honor. It was wonderful to see them again, and to have their influence in our home. Grandparents examples are so important to children. Every little thing that they do and say are totally eaten up by my kids. Brett was especially attached to them, and didn't want them to leave. He keeps asking me when we are going to their house.
Finally, I wanted to say one more time how proud I am of Courtney with her cross-country running. She is wicked fast, and keeps improving each meet. One quick story...at each of her meets there is a team from the Springs that kicks butt and takes names. They must be coached really well, because they all take top ranking each and every meet that they attend. The last meet was no exception, but who is the first girl to come in right after their best runners..COURTNEY!! She took 12th place out of 200+ girls last week. I was crying at the finish line because I was so overwhelmed that she has found her "thing". Okay, I am done bragging but she is just loving it and it is good to see her so happy. Enjoy the pictures of all that has been going on in our little corner of the world.

Courtney's Cross Country Adventures
Courtney started running on the Cross Country team for her school this year. She is doing so well, that I had to take this moment to brag about her a little. I am so proud of her, as she has found something that she likes and really stuck to it. Last week she ran in a meet at Cheyenne Mountain where she took 44th out of 107 kids. I was so proud, as this was her first meet ever. Today she had a meet at Legacy Academy, and she took fourth place!!! FOURTH PLACE... over a two and a half mile course. How cool is that!! Okay, I am done being the proud mom. She definitely inherited this ability from her father, because it isn't my thing for sure. Way to go Courtney!!

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!!
Well it is back to school for the kids!! Hooray!! They have both been so stressed out over the past couple of weeks with anticipation of the year to come. Zack couldn't wait to find out who his teacher was, and Courtney wanted to find out what friends she would have in her various classes. Good news, they are both doing well.
Courtney is running Cross Country for her middle school, and she is loving it. She just has a natural ability to run and run without becoming too tired. She didn't get that from me, that's for sure. Her classes are going great, and she is super responsible about getting all of her homework done. We have her first Cross Country meet next weekend, and so it should be a lot of fun. I always tell her that she is my guinea pig...I have to figure everything out for the first time with her. When it comes time for Zack to do these things, I will be a pro!!
Zack got the strictest teacher in the school!! I am totally loving it. Mrs. Knight is super organized and loves things to be just so. Zack should thrive in this environment because he is somewhat used to it. This last year things have gotten away from me a little, but I do love to be organized and have everything in control. She is a much better teacher than last year, and so he will continue to do well with school as always.
Brett has truly been a mystery!! I was convinced that he would really have a hard time with his "entertainment committee" leaving for school each day. I agonized and agonized over putting him in Preschool an extra year, because I totally thought he would be bored out of his mind. He is doing so well. He loves the one on one time he gets with his parents, and we love to interact with him as well. He has been a total joy to be around. There just may be tears streaming down my face when he gets on that Kindergarten bus someday!! Ha Ha

The Mi Mi is Gone!!!
Amen, praise heaven. Dave and I finally decided that Brett's pacifier had to go!! The question was is how are we going to be so mean and cruel and get the job done!! Does this happen with your last child? It seems it is much harder to do the things that you know you need to do, when it may cause them temporary discomfort. I had agonized and agonized about throwing it away. We tried to coax it out of him. We went waterskiing, and we tried to have him throw it overboard into Chatfield Resevoir. He wasn't having ANY of our shenanigans!! He needed his Mi Mi.
My mom called a couple of days later and told me how she got my brother to throw his pacifier away. It was settled....we had formulated a plan. Our little family got in the car and drove down to the Springs. We then found the closest Toys R Us, and went in to tempt him. He couldn't take it, and found many toys that he absolutely had to have. We narrowed it down to a few, and then went to the checkout. We told him in order to get his new presents, he had to give his pacifier to the store clerk. She threw it away in front of him, and he got his new toys. The trade worked out marvelously until that night, when he told us he didn't want his new toys anymore, he wanted his Mi Mi. Too bad...so sad. Ha ha. We had to stay strong. It is day three, and things have gone relatively smooth. He has had a few temper tantrums, because he is trying to learn new ways to self-soothe. He will figure it out. I thought you would enjoy the pictures of Toys R US, and then when we went to Garden of the Gods immediately after.

Summer is Almost Over!!
Summer is coming to a quick end!! I am not ready...or am I? I know that we have mexed feelings here at my house. Zack can't wait for school, but Courtney wants summer for a few more weeks. Brett is losing his "entertainment committee", and it is going to be really rough on him. I am debating putting him in an extra year of preschool just so that he will have something to do. We shall see. Time to start shopping for the supplies, clothes, and all the garb for school. Oh boy!!

It is a "Z" Booger !
What a hoot!! Some may be offended at this gross post, but it had to be done. You must know my personality, and I was in stitches. Zack picked his nose last night, and right out came this booger that was a perfect "z". It didn't photograph very well, but this is the best one we got. You have to know Zack, and if boogers are lucky, then Zack is lucky. When we traveled to Nauvoo, Illinois he announced that he was going to find a four leaf clover in a field by where we were staying. I am not joking when I say that within about 15 minutes he had found a honest to goodness four leaf clover. It is framed in his room!! He is such a STINK!! Okay, okay I know this is gross, but funny right?
HE FINALLY HAD HIS HAIR CUT !! !! !!
I have been waiting for this day for a long time!! It has been the "in" thing at Zack's school to have long hippy hair. I actually liked it for awhile, but the look was getting a little old. Our family took a trip to the Southlands Shopping Center on Friday to eat at Mt. Fuji, get the car washed, and trim Zack's hair so that it could grow back a little before school started. You see, it always has a goofy phase after it is cut and needs to recover for a week or so.
Zack, Brett, and I went into Great Clips and Zack announced that he was going to cut it all off. I about passed out right there on the floor. Here is a funny story. Brett and I were waiting in the seating area, and he was acting up so I asked if he wanted to go and see how Zack was doing. We walked over to Zack, and Brett looked right at him. Brett looked around the room, and asked where his brother was. He just plain couldn't recognize him with his short hair. It is so good to see his face again!!

Furry Visitor
I just thought that this was a funny picture. Dave was out watering our trees around the house, and kept hearing this thumping noise off in the distance. He followed the sound, and traced it to the rain gutter in the backyard. He put a hose down into the rain gutter, and turned it on. All in hopes of flushing out the critter making the noise. Out popped the head of this half drowned rabbit that was stuck in the gutter. We had to unscrew the rain gutter, and shake the rabbit out. Just a funny story I thought you might enjoy.

A Long Trip to the Surface of the Sun!!
Our family has finally returned from our weeklong vacation. Overall excitement to be back is a total understatement at this point. I never would have imagined that kids could actually get sick of swimming!! Yes, it is true...sick of swimming. As you have read the posts before this, we headed out to Page, Arizona to attend our Aunt Chris' wedding. Dave had to work the following week in Phoenix, Arizona, so I came up with the plan to head down to Phoenix with him. He travels so much, that the Hilton usually puts him up in a really nice place. So...stay home with nothing to do, or drive down with him to enjoy some water and sun. The decision was easy for me.
After the wedding, we jumped in the car and made the seven hour drive to Phoenix. Little did I know that the rest of the nation seemed to be doing the same. The drive into the city was hurrendous!! The seven hour car trip actually took nine. However, we finally arrived at our destination..Hilton Squaw Peak Resort in Phoenix. The room we stayed in was not your typical room, it was actually a Casita. There were two levels, a full kitchen, kitchenette area, and sitting area with a couch, loveseat, and TV. Comfy was the name of the game. It was so nice to be able to watch TV downstairs at night, and the kids could watch the Disney Channel upstairs. Brett was able to take naps everyday without a complaint that he was missing anything, since he could be upstairs alone in the bedrooms. The kids enjoyed the private pool that was right outside our door, and also the waterpark that was a few hundred yards outside our door. I can tell you that I enjoyed the lazy river far too much. Brett just swam around and around in the lazy river with his lifejacket on. He told everyone that he wanted to "swim with himself", which meant he had to do it all by himself. I just followed.
I have to tell you that 110 degree weather is HOT!! Things like pavement, outdoor furniture, and walkways are so hot they can literally burn your skin. Not just hurt a little, but burn your skin. We had to stay wet constantly in order not to overheat. After four days of this, the kids said they were bored. WHAT? Bored? How could you be bored with a waterpark at your disposal, and a private pool if the waterpark was a little too crowded at the time? I didn't get it, and I still don't. I could have stayed forever. I think I forgot how to cook that week. It was great..no making beds, cooking, cleaning..the life. However all vacations have to come to an end.
The drive home had to be broken up a bit, so we stopped in Durango, CO. Our room there overlooked the river that runs through town, so we took a vote and stayed an extra night there. I am so glad that we decided to stay. For dinner that night, we went to the Bar D Chuckwagon for a dinner show. For anyone that has not done this, I highly recommend it. It is a cowboy western singing show. It is fabulous, and almost brings me to tears everytime I see it. We have seen the Bar D Wranglers in Durango twice, and the Bar J Wranglers in Jackson Hole twice. I always leave with tears streaming down my face because I have laughed so hard at their show.
Our trip went so smoothly, I couldn't have asked for more. The kids all got along for the week without much squabbling, which is a miracle. Ha ha. Brett did great with his food allergies. No Epi-Pens or Benadryl this trip. Our only hiccup during the trip was during our return from Phoenix to Durango. Zack got carsick, and threw up about eight times. There is even a picture in the slide show of him puking at the Four Corners Monument. How many people can say that they have puked in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico all at the same time? I had to snap the picture.
We had a great time, but we are all glad to back at Home Sweet Home!! Our beds never felt so good!! Enjoy the slideshow.

We Best Friends!!
Brett keeps telling that two older kids that they are best friends!! He grabs their cheeks, looks them directly in the eye, and tells them. It is so cute!! I know that summer vacation is coming to a quick end, and I don't know what I am going to do without the "entertainment committee". That is what the two older kids are for him. He cries when they leave, and wants them to come home as soon as possible. I guess he is going to have to get potty trained, and go to preschool!!
Howard's Visit...Good Friends... Good Times
A long time ago when Zack went to Faith Lutheran Preschool in Castle Rock, we met some friends that we consider some of our dearest!! It was such an amazing thing that all the moms whose kids attended Faith Lutheran enjoyed getting together and spending time together. Little did we know that this would turn out to be lifelong friendships. As time went on, some of us have fallen out of contact, but three families keep in pretty regular contact with each other.
Luckily, two of those wonderful families still live here in Colorado. Our other dear friends moved to California two years ago. As I have mentioned before, a lot has happened to me the last year and a half with my health. It has been a long road to haul to say the least, and I haven't had the chance to take my family to California to see the Howard's. Now this is really strange when you find out that they live a stone's throw from Disneyland!!! And not to mention that I have a toddler with severe food allergies. Traveling with him is extremely difficult, and we haven't ventured that far yet.
The best news of my summer came when Annie called and said that they would be out to visit in June. They even were going to stay out at our new house!! Courtney and Zack were so excited that they couldn't even stand it!!
Our families had a marvelous time together. The best thing that could have ever happened was that we just took time to relax. No agenda was laid out each day, and there was no plan. We just sat around, enjoyed the view off our deck, and talked. It was so fun catching up with all that has been going on with our lives. Oh yeah, the golfing was great too!!

Here Comes the Bride
Well, it has been awhile since I have had the time to blog. I am still getting used to carrying the camera with me wherever I go, and it continually slips my mind. Our family has had the opportunity to get away this past week, mainly for the purpose of attending Dave's sister's wedding. Aunt Chris was married this weekend in Lake Powell.
Let me start off with the beginning of this fun journey. Dave and I were trying to decide if we could attend Aunt Chris' upcoming wedding. The date was changed several times, and Dave's work schedule doesn't always permit him to travel at last minute. It just so happened that he wasn't going out of town during the Fourth of July, so things were timed perfectly. It has been a really rough year and a half for me health wise, and I told Dave that if he was going to go I was going with him!! The conclusion was then drawn that we would all go together. I was in desperate need of a long vacation.
In an attempt to break up the long drive, we headed out from Colorado and stopped in Farmington, New Mexico the first night after seven hours of driving. I don't recommend this to anyone. Farmington was probably one of the dirtiest places that I have ever been. People just throw their garbage out of their car windwos. We stopped off at Target to get water, and a few other things. There was garbage all over in the parking lot!! Can you imagine going to Sonic to get your Vanilla Diet Coke, and then just chucking the cup out the window when you were finished!! I was stunned. Anyhow, we spent the night there, and headed out first thing in the morning.
The next day we drove for another four hours to Lake Powell. We went to Wawheap in Page Arizona. Luckily, on this busy weekend we were able to get a room at the Lake Powell Resort and Marina. Talk about a beautiful place!! You can definitely see our Father in Heaven's handiwork when you lay your eyes on this one of a kind sight. Our family walked down to the marina and out onto the houseboat slips. Chris' fiance's houseboat is called the Regal Sunrise, and it was docked there with food and drinks for people to enjoy during the day. Our kids were so excited, and didn't want to stay there. They just wanted to go back to the room, put on our wedding clothes, and head out to the cruise ship that was chartered for the wedding. It seemed like forever until the moment finally came to head out to the Canyon Princess ship. Brett was so excited to get on the "big boat".
Dave had the pleasure of walking his sister down the aisle and giving her away. It was such a special moment for him, and I knew that moment meant the world to him. He was given this pleasure because his parents are out of the country serving an LDS mission in New Zealand. He absolutely smiled from ear to ear!! Chris looked stunning as she walked down the aisle. Talk about a beautiful back drop for a wedding. It was absolutely spectacular. Chris exchanged vows with her husband, Paul. The ceremony touched all in attendance, and there literally wasn't a dry eye to be found.
Paul is a very charming guy!! Chris definitely did a good job in picking this great man, and I am sure that they will be very happy in their future to come. I hadn't had the pleasure of formally meeting Paul, and I just have to that he is extremely charming. I actually haven't seen anyone dance quite like he and his friends. They just had an absolute ball on the boat!!
Of course, my two boys were absolutely done by the end of the night. The reception ended at 10pm, and both of them were asking to leave around 9pm. We had been up late for so many days in a row, that they couldn't stay awake one more second. Anyway, to make a long story even longer....the wedding was spectacular and we consider ourselves blessed to have been in attendance. We wish Chris and Paul all of the happiness that two could possibly have.
Our road trip hasn't ended yet. The day after the wedding we threw the kids in the car again, and took another five hour drive down to Phoenix. Dave is working here this week, and I have it pretty tough too!! I have to sit by the pool at the resort with the kids. A tough life I lead...haha. We will be here for the rest of the week, and then we will pile in the car again for the long journey home.
I wouldn't have changed a thing!! Our kids will never forget our journey to the wedding!!

The next day we drove for another four hours to Lake Powell. We went to Wawheap in Page Arizona. Luckily, on this busy weekend we were able to get a room at the Lake Powell Resort and Marina. Talk about a beautiful place!! You can definitely see our Father in Heaven's handiwork when you lay your eyes on this one of a kind sight. Our family walked down to the marina and out onto the houseboat slips. Chris' fiance's houseboat is called the Regal Sunrise, and it was docked there with food and drinks for people to enjoy during the day. Our kids were so excited, and didn't want to stay there. They just wanted to go back to the room, put on our wedding clothes, and head out to the cruise ship that was chartered for the wedding. It seemed like forever until the moment finally came to head out to the Canyon Princess ship. Brett was so excited to get on the "big boat".
Dave had the pleasure of walking his sister down the aisle and giving her away. It was such a special moment for him, and I knew that moment meant the world to him. He was given this pleasure because his parents are out of the country serving an LDS mission in New Zealand. He absolutely smiled from ear to ear!! Chris looked stunning as she walked down the aisle. Talk about a beautiful back drop for a wedding. It was absolutely spectacular. Chris exchanged vows with her husband, Paul. The ceremony touched all in attendance, and there literally wasn't a dry eye to be found.
Paul is a very charming guy!! Chris definitely did a good job in picking this great man, and I am sure that they will be very happy in their future to come. I hadn't had the pleasure of formally meeting Paul, and I just have to that he is extremely charming. I actually haven't seen anyone dance quite like he and his friends. They just had an absolute ball on the boat!!
Of course, my two boys were absolutely done by the end of the night. The reception ended at 10pm, and both of them were asking to leave around 9pm. We had been up late for so many days in a row, that they couldn't stay awake one more second. Anyway, to make a long story even longer....the wedding was spectacular and we consider ourselves blessed to have been in attendance. We wish Chris and Paul all of the happiness that two could possibly have.
Our road trip hasn't ended yet. The day after the wedding we threw the kids in the car again, and took another five hour drive down to Phoenix. Dave is working here this week, and I have it pretty tough too!! I have to sit by the pool at the resort with the kids. A tough life I lead...haha. We will be here for the rest of the week, and then we will pile in the car again for the long journey home.
I wouldn't have changed a thing!! Our kids will never forget our journey to the wedding!!

Golf Camp!!
The kids had three days of golf camp, and they loved it!! They learned more about their drivers, putters, chipping, etc. Courtney was of course the only girl at the camp, but hopefully that will keep up and one day we can capitalize on a scholarship! They are both turning out to be great golfers, and love to go all of the time.

Summer Fun!!
I am so glad that school is out, and the summer fun can begin. The grass is turning green finally at our house, and the trees have their leaves. My kids can finally go outside and play!! Hooray!! Being outside is the best, and the kids love to just hand out and do their thing. We are excited as a family to get out and boat. Dave and Zack are changing the oil, and putting new sparkplugs in the boat this very minute. He loves working with his dad, and he asked for his own set of tools today. Courtney's patience with Brett never seems to end!! She loves to follow him around, and help him navigate the swingset or throw the baseball. Brett asks to be outside from the very second that he wakes up in the morning.
After months of snow and cold weather, this is just the ticket. It is amazing how a little Vitamin D is good for your mood!! Ha Ha. Do you think any of my kids have noticed that mom has a little spring in her step these days. I doubt it.
We are sure looking forward to all of the visitors that are coming out this summer. My good friend Annie and her family are coming out in June, my brother and his family are coming out in July, and one of Courtney's friends from back home is coming out for five days in July also!! The kids and I were talking about how our summer is filling up really fast, and it will be a blink of an eye and school will start again. Have a great summer everyone!!

Kearney, Nebraska
Aren't friends awesome!! I am so glad that Suzette and Wendy got me going on my blog this weekend. Without their help, I am not sure that I would have been able to figure it all out!! Our families all met in Kearney (pronounced Carney), Nebraska to hang out. Why Kearney, Nebraska? Only because it is half-way in all directions, and it just plain didn't matter where we went. They are all just awesome people, and a riot to hang out with. We didn't do anything special. It was just an absolute riot to play at the local park, and just sit around and catch up on all that we had missed over the last year or so.
Good friends are hard to come by, especially those where all the husbands, wives, and kids all get along. I am so grateful for these great families, and would be lost without them. Thanks for coming and making our weekend one that we will never forget!!
